12/27/2023 0 Comments Gilead coupon truvada![]() ![]() Each year during open enrollment before choosing a plan I look at their drug formulary to see how they classify Truvada under a given plan and then pick one that will guarantee that I won't have to wind up paying for any of it. In addition to using the Gilead co-pay card, I also don't have employer-provided health insurance but I have to buy my own plan through my state's individual health insurance exchange (Affordable Care Act/Obamacare). This is how pretty much ANY manufacturer coupon card worked while I was in pharmacy, and most of them specifically stated that they were only for insured patients and wouldn’t assist if a patient had Medicare some had separate amounts of coverage for those without insurance, but usually much less. So even if an insurer will not pay, sometimes the coupon PBM still wants to see that rejection before they will authorize to pay toward your cost. When their systems goes on to use the coupon, it is communicated to the PBM (pharmacy benefit manager) overseeing the coupon that a valid insurer rejected payment because of non-covered NDC(drug), and the reject code basically means “we tried”. The way it works is the pharmacy runs both cards, with your insurance as primary and the coupon card as secondary insurance, then your insurance either pays something OR rejects payment, kicking it to the coupon. With a lot of manufacturer coupon cards, they will only work if you’re insured, but don’t require that your insurance actually cover that drug. There is a chance that Truvada with the Gilead card is still going to be cheaper for you than the generic. Ask your doctor about it and get a quote from United before filling it. The way the Gilead card works is that it will supplement your monthly cost for Truvada up to a certain amount per 12-months, I think like $3,600? The math works out to roughly $0-100 cost to you per refill.Īlso, there is now generic Truvada. ![]() Then, when you go to pick up the prescription and it’s time to pay, with the Gilead paperwork your total each time should be between $0-100 depending on what your United insurance is. ![]() You use your United insurance, PLUS you show them the paperwork/card from Gilead. Then, you get a prescription from your doctor. If you fill it out, Gilead will email and mail you a copy of the card/paperwork. If you Google it, you should find an online form. Gilead offers what is called a “copay assistance,” “secondary insurance” or “voucher/coupon” depending on who you ask. Picking up on this so it’s totally clear: Gilead is the manufacturer of name-brand Truvada.
